The start page that you see when you open the TikTok app is called the "For you" page. It can be compared to the so-called
feed on the social media platform
Instagram. Compared to Instagram, however, on the "For you" page you don't just see posts from profiles you follow, but posts from users you don't follow, but whose content could be similar to your own interests.
This is how the TikTok
algorithm works: the content on the "For you" page is personalised to each user and depends on how long content is viewed, which content is viewed and how one interacts with it.
The For You Page allows TikTok to have twice as long an average usage time as Instagram.
