TikTok is a Chinese social media and video app that was founded in 2016 and is particularly popular with today's generation. TikTok is a social network similar to
Instagram. Instead of pictures, however, self-made, short videos are accompanied by music, and people often dance or sing along synchronously. In addition, the app provides appropriate
filters with which the uploaded videos can be adapted and edited. Afterwards, they can be shared with other users.
TikTok is free of charge and, as with all other social networks, influencers can earn money through sponsorship, for example. Furthermore, the app is equipped with a live function where fans can donate money to their TikTok favourites, a principle already familiar from the streaming platform Twitch. News, fashion or comedy videos can now also be found increasingly on TikTok.
Instagram has a similar function, see
Reels.
